Where to Stay in Ischia | The Best Areas & Accommodations

Despite its relatively small size, choosing where to stay in Ischia isn’t quite as simple as it first seems, with each of its main towns appealing to a different type of traveller.

Some are built around spa hotels and quiet mornings, others are better if you’re after beaches, good restaurants, and a bit of atmosphere in the evenings. Some parts of Ischia are well set up for first-time visitors - close to the ferry, with plenty of choice and everything within walking distance - others are quieter, a bit more local, and better suited to people who don’t mind being slightly further out.

And while it’s fairly easy to get around by bus or scooter, where you base yourself will still influence the kind of experience you end up having, especially if you’re only visiting the island for a few days.

The aim of our guide is to therefore help you figure out which part of the island is right for your travel style - and find a great place to stay there!

Instead of listing every hotel on Ischia, we’ve focused on the towns and villages that make the most sense as a base.

These are the places where you’ll find the widest range of accommodation, decent places to eat, and a few things to do - along with good connections if you’re planning to explore further. You’ll find honest pros and cons for each, a sense of who they suit best, and a handful of personally curated accommodation recommendations, from simple guesthouses to hotels with sea views and thermal pools.

Whether you’re visiting Ischia for a long weekend, adding it to a wider Italy itinerary, or planning to settle in for a while, this guide will help you pick your perfect base, so you can spend less time figuring things out, and more time enjoying the island.

This is Where to Stay in Ischia.

Forio | Sunsets, Beaches & A Classic Island Feel

Forio stretches along the island’s western coast and feels like a proper town with everyday life woven through its streets (arguably more so than many other parts of Ischia).

You’ve got long runs of sandy shoreline and a compact historic centre where restaurants and bars cluster around the lanes, whilst it’s well located for exploring the rest of the island. It’s also possible to catch a ferry here from the mainland, making it a practical base too.

Besides Ischia Porto - more on that later - it’s also one of the best areas for apartments and B&Bs. There’s far more choice in Forio than many other towns on the island, which makes it especially appealing for independent travellers rather than those after an all-in resort feel.

We based ourselves here for the duration of our stay and, after a week of exploring the rest of the island, had zero regrets about that decision.

Best For / Beach holidays, couples, families, culture seekers

Pros / Gorgeous beaches like Citara and San Francesco, thermal parks (like Poseidon), a walkable town with excellent restaurants, beautiful sunsets, and generally lower prices than other parts of the island

Cons / Lacks the polished charm of Sant’Angelo or the convenience of Ischia Porto; parts of town can feel a bit tired

Hotels & Guesthouses

Faro Punta Imperatore | Located within an old lighthouse, this luxurious boutique hotel with just four rooms is absolutely stunning - we’d stay here in a heartbeat! Stylish, contemporary and considered, it’s got a minimalist aesthetic of stark white walls accented by sumptuous mid-century furniture. They also have a truly spectacular rooftop terrace, with 240-degree views over sea and the setting sun, where you can enjoy cocktails or - for something really special - a tasting menu created and prepared by one of the island’s best chefs.

Hotel Nettuno | With sea-facing rooms, traditional tiled floors, and a rooftop terrace that’s ideal for evening views (and sunset cocktails), Hotel Nettuno makes a solid base in Forio. It’s comfortable and well-located rather than stylish, and works well if you’re after a mid-range stay that’s clean, easy, and within walking distance of everything.

B&B Marina Garden | Our number one pick if resorts aren’t really your thing. This incredibly popular B&B near the port offers a number of good-sized, immaculately presented contemporary rooms, each with their own balcony or terrace. Guests speak highly of the breakfasts and the staff.

The lovely Queen Suite is a good alternative if the above isn’t available.

Hotel Terme Tritone Resort & Spa | A beachfront resort with sprawling gardens, several thermal pools, and direct private beach access. The atmosphere is relaxed and low-key, with a focus on wellness and longer stays. Interiors and styling lean more traditional than luxurious, but it’s clean, calm, and well managed with plenty of space to unwind.

Villa Ravino Secret Retreat | Set within the lush gardens of the famous Giardini Ravino, this small retreat feels genuinely unique. The rooms (a mix of studios and doubles) are beautiful and offer a real contemporary and mediterranean twist on the more classical aesthetic that’s typical to Ischia. They also come with private terraces overlooking the sea or greenery. It’s an ideal choice for those wanting a quieter, more independent stay surrounded by botanical beauty, a little away from town life. This is one of our favourites!

Il Vitigno | More rustic and relaxed than the others, but with bags of character: tiled floors, traditional furniture, vines everywhere, kind of like where your Italian nonna might live. Rooms are simple but clean, and the overall vibe is local, laid-back, and quietly charming without trying too hard. There’s a pool, a few animals, and lovely owners. Popular with Italians and those that want to get away from it all.

Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa | Hidden among pine trees on a headland just beyond Forio, Mezzatorre is Ischia’s most exclusive hotel. The 16th-century tower setting, private beach platform, and terracotta-toned rooms give it a quiet, cinematic grandeur. A true design-led hotel for special occasions or once-in-a-lifetime stays.

Know // There are also a number of really popular resorts and hotels just south of Forio, near the Poseidon Thermal Spa, which you may wish to consider. Two to take a look at are the charming adults-only Hotel Villa Melodie and Hotel Capizzo.

Airbnbs & Apartments

Torrione Apartment | Whilst this one-bed isn’t going to win any style awards, you’re not staying here for its aesthetics - its main selling point is the charming little balcony beneath the Torrione in Forio d'Ischia, with views almost over the water (replete with sunbeds if you want a chilled few hours to top up on your tan!).

If it’s a one-bed you’re seeking, also check out Il bacio del sole and Historic Centre Apartment.

Casa Vento di Mare | We love this two-bedroom property. Located on a small hill overlooking the fort, it’s ideally set up for a small family and comfortably decorated with pops of colour throughout. There’s also a lovely garden area with paved terrace, lemon tree, and sunbeds. A wonderful spot to enjoy the Ischian sunshine!

Another two-bed property we’d book in a heartbeat is Casa Mediterranea Forio. Located a few streets back from the coast, its location within a gated garden means it’s super quiet but still within minutes of Forio’s attactions. Clean lines, lots of light, tiled floors and vintage furniture throughout, it also benefits from a small private garden terrace and even a parking spot!

Casa Romano | With not one, not two, but THREE sea view balconies, this two-bedroom Airbnb found in the heart of Forio’s historic district is a super popular place to stay (despite being one of the more expensive options). It offers lots of space and has a proper kitchen/dining area, ideal for preparing dinner on the days you wish to eat in.

The equally popular Casa Suite Teresa has a similar aesthetic, but if a large rooftop terrace is really what you’re looking for. Don’t miss Downtown Apartment and La Pergola.

Luxury Apartment | If you need a little more space, this lovely three-bed property may be perfect. Set across two floors, it is comfortably furnished and filled with art and antiques. It’s got a really good kitchen and a terrace overlooking Forio.

Apartment Don Raffaè is another really excellent three-bed (honestly, the terrace alone makes this place worth it) but if you need the space without breaking the bank, then check out Casa Di Majo.

Hostels

Forio also plays host to the island’s only hostel - Ring Hostel. It’s not the most impressive we’ve ever seen, but it’s got decent reviews and is one of the best budget options for young travellers in Ischia!

Ischia Porto | Convenient, Bustling & Well-Connected

Ischia Porto is the island’s main transport hub: if you're arriving by ferry, this is your likely landing point.

It’s buzzy and modern in parts, with a promenade full of bars, seafood restaurants, and boutiques. While it’s definitely not the most beautiful town - despite visiting twice, we never really fell in love with it - staying here is a practical and popular choice, and gives you easy access to the rest of the island by bus or taxi.

It’s also where you’ll find the majority of the island’s Airbnb properties, so although we wouldn’t push people toward staying here, it may suit independent travellers well (especially those that will spend most of their time exploring beyond the port).

Best For / First-time visitors, short stays, nightlife, transport links

Pros / Very well connected, lots of dining options, lively in the evenings, good base for exploring Ischia, lots of apartments

Cons / Lacks charm compared to other towns, can feel crowded in high season

Plan // 13 Wonderful Things To Do in Ischia

Hotels & Guesthouses

Hotel Continental Mare | Laid-back and slightly retro, this clifftop hotel trades on its views, with wide open, uninterrupted sea and sunsets from most rooms. Interiors are simple and a little dated in places, but clean and spacious, with large terraces and two pools surrounded by bougainvillea (the suite with private pool is really lovely however). The atmosphere is calm and grown-up, and it’s far enough from the centre of Ischia Porto to feel removed, but still walkable if you’re up for a bit of a stroll.

Relais Bijoux Ischia | A small villa-style guesthouse perched in the hills above Ischia Porto. Rooms are individually decorated with personal touches, and there’s a spacious terrace with sea views and a pool. It’s not especially design-led, but the blue and white styling offers a relaxed, informal charm and suits those wanting somewhere removed from the centre.

Vittoria Colonna Luxury B&B | Set just a short walk from the port, this small B&B has a put together, contemporary look - clean lines, neutral tones, and considered finishes. Rooms are compact but well designed, with a bright, minimal feel. It’s a calm, low-key base with a lovely rooftop terrace and warm, attentive service.

Hotel Terme Oriente | This central hotel has a classic ‘80s seaside vibe: tiled floors, functional furniture, and communal areas with retro charm. What it lacks in contemporary style, it makes up for in thermal facilities and a decent spa. It’s a relaxed, no-fuss option with a rooftop pool and beach access nearby.

Pagoda Lifestyle Hotel | Cut into the rocky shoreline near the port, Pagoda’s layout is its main draw - multiple terraces spill down toward the sea (private access only), with loungers and steps into the water. Interiors are light and stylised - think lots of white contemporary coastal vibes, an aesthetic that continues into the shared spaces. A casual, open-air base with a breezy aesthetic that’s a lot more ‘ADR’ than many others on the island.

Hermitage Resort & Thermal Spa | Tucked slightly inland from the port, Hermitage Resort offers spacious grounds, two thermal pools, and a peaceful setting surrounded by greenery. The rooms are traditional in style - tiled floors, classic furnishings - and the overall feel is more functional resort than stylish escape. A decent choice for those after spa access and quiet nights.

Airbnbs & Apartments

Casa Gisa | This one-bedroom apartment is so damn cute and cosy! Every inch has been considered, and decorated in a fun modern style. The reviews are excellent, with past guests raving about the host and great location.

La Casetta di Nana | Another one-bed that we love, located just a few steps from the harbour of Ischia. Owned by a family of architects, it has been recently refurbished and redesigned with taste and a touch of discrete elegance. It doesn’t have any outdoor space but the glass-covered lounge gives a real indoor-oudoor feel.

Seaside House | Our one-bed budget pick is a very special place - situated directly above a small beach to the west of Ischia Porto, it’s somewhat basic inside, but the hidden-away location and the large private terrace steps from the water more than make up for it! Ideal for those that want to be close to restaurants / transport connections etc but crave the feeling of isolation.

Casa Rosaria is another excellent value one-bedroom apartment, but if views of the sea are super important to you - but you’d like something a little more modern and ‘finished’ - you have to take a look at LightHouse 121.

La Sarda | One of our favourite apartments in Ischia Porto (which is why it’s often booked up quite far in advance), this two-bed property is in the heart of town, with a terrace overlooking Spiaggia di San Pietro. Recently renovated, the interiors are modern, calming and beautifully furnished.

Another super popular two-bed overlooking the same beach - albeit with a bit more of a chintzy aesthetic - is Blue Sea.

Villa di Charme | This is the two-bed you book if you want somewhere really special to stay. Not only does it offer lots of space and immaculate interiors, it has a huge landscaped garden with various dining and lounging areas that will likely make it difficult to leave the property!

Alternatively, this is another really beautiful property, priced a little lower but still with a luxurious feel.

If affordability is your major deciding factor when picking a two-bedroom property, take a look at La Rosa dei Venti and Comfortable Apartment With Terrace, both of which have excellent reviews.

Charming Villa | This gorgeous three-bedroom villa is perfect for a family that wants a central location, but still seeks a beautiful secluded space to escape the crowds. Light and bright with a neutral colour palette and a mix of Mediterranean and contemporary styling, it’s got lots of space and a good sized private garden for dining and lounging.

Located in a quiet residential area of Ischia Porto (but only a few minutes from its main attractions), the colourful and modern Verbena 19 is another excellent three-bed option. Alternatively, La Perla is less aesthetic but more affordable and has an epic tooftop terrace.

Priced far beyond the reach of many, but if you’re looking for somewhere truly special, take a look at the stunning and exclusive Villa Serao; it was once owned by the writerMatilde Serao.

Ischia Blu Resort | Just steps from the ferry terminal, Ischia Blu offers smart, self-catering apartments in a sleek whitewashed complex with pops of Mediterranean blue. Most open directly onto the sea, with shaded terraces and clean, modern interiors. The focus is on space and views rather than full-service extras making it ideal for independent travellers.

Ischia Ponte | Historic, Atmospheric & Beautifully Photogenic

Shaped by centuries rather than planners, Ischia Ponte is the historic heart of the island; a tight knot of streets and seafront where daily life unfolds in the shadow of the Castello Aragonese.

One of the towns that feels mostly distinctly like southern Italy, it works well as a base if you want to stay somewhere walkable and well connected without being right in the middle of the ferry port. You’re close enough to Ischia Porto to reach ferries, buses, and larger shops on foot, but far enough away that evenings are noticeably calmer, with life centred more on restaurants and low-key bars than on late-night noise.

It’s also one of the more practical areas for beach access, with Spiaggia dei Pescatori stretching just north of the old town offering a mix of traditional lidos and a small section of open sand that makes it easy to fit in a swim without committing to a full beach day. Accommodation here is more varied than people often expect, ranging from long-established spa hotels and resorts to smaller guesthouses and apartments.

Best for / History lovers, photographers, couples, quieter stays - suits travellers who want a balance between comfort and atmosphere

Pros / Close to the Aragonese Castle, full of local character, pedestrian-friendly, great sea views, right on the beach

Cons / Can be quieter in the evenings and busy in the day (all visitors want to visit the castle)

Hotels & Guesthouses

Hotel Miramare e Castello | With its prime position by the sea and direct views of the Aragonese Castle, this hotel combines traditional Mediterranean architecture with classic interiors. Rooms are elegant but not flashy, and the rooftop terrace and private beach offer standout views. They also have excellent spa facilities. This is one of the more luxurious hotel in Ischia Ponte, with private beach access to boot!

Albergo Il Monastero | This elegant hotel is housed in a former monastery atop Ischia’s Aragonese Castle, with rooms set around cloistered courtyards and terraces overlooking the sea. The feel is pared-back, with simple, elegant rooms shaped by the building’s history rather than modern hotel trends. A kitchen garden supplies the restaurant, there’s a small contemporary art studio on site, and the views are outstanding. It’s quietly atmospheric rather than luxurious, and best suited to travellers who value location and character over modern hotel extras.

Hotel Noris | A small, no-frills hotel close to the centre of Ischia Ponte. Rooms are functional and a little plain, but everything is well kept, and the rooftop terrace gives great views across the town and bay.

Hotel Mare Blu Terme | Just behind the seafront promenade, this mid-sized hotel features tiled floors, soft blue accents, and a more classic Mediterranean feel. Rooms are comfortable if a little dated, and the leafy garden and small thermal spa offer a peaceful atmosphere. There's beach access nearby and a rooftop terrace with loungers. Note that whilst this is down as a 5* hotel, we’re not entirely convinced it actually lives up to that lofty designation.

Hotel Villa Durrueli Resort & Spa | Stylish without being over-designed (if you don’t mind loud pops of colour of course), this resort-style hotel balances quiet luxury and sea views with clean, modern interiors and a surprisingly peaceful pool area. It’s close to the centre of Ischia Porto, but just far enough away to avoid the noise. The wellness centre and small spa are well equipped, and the outdoor spaces feel like a real bonus if you’re staying more than a couple of nights. A good all-rounder with a slight boutique edge.

Giardino Eden Resort | Set just across the water from Castello Aragonese, Giardino Eden is part beach club, part boutique resort, with a handful of simple, sea-facing rooms and private access to natural rock pools. If you focus is as much ‘summer holiday downtime’ as it is exploring the island, this is a fantastic choice.

B&B Marcantonio | This small B&B in the heart of Ischia Ponte offers simple, modern rooms with neutral décor and a personal feel. It’s not flashy, but everything is spotless and well cared for. The hosts are welcoming, and the location is ideal for exploring the old town on foot without needing transport.

Airbnbs & Apartments

Looking for a stylish bolthole on the beach? The small but perfectly formed Casa Isabel may be ideal.

La Moresca del Borgo di Celsa | We love the aesthetics of this two-bedroom apartment built within the walls of a former convent. It’s beautifully designed, boasting period features and filled with art and antiques and even offers a small terrace with views of the sea.

Domus Aenaria | Located within a private courtyard, this spacious two-storey, two-bedroom villa offers a traditional place to stay in Ischia Ponte. More like a home than a holiday let, the bedroom set-up lends itself well to a family.

We clocked these two properties when we exploring Ischia Ponte, and thought they’d make a wonderful place to stay. Right by the water’s edge in an old-fashioned fisherman’s house, each one-bedroom apartment offers a comfortable and cosy place to stay with wonderful views - we’re quite partial to Lo Scuopolo but Ischia Sea Side has equally good reviews.

Splendido appartamento nel cuore di Ischia Ponte | Whilst this one-bedroom apartment is fairly small on the inside, it has everything a couple would need for a holiday. The main reason it’s made it into our selection though is the direct private sea access. Would be a really special spot for the right sort of traveller.

A couple of two-bedroom properties to take a look at are Aragona (modern and functional with a small balcony) and Appartamento Eos (simple, affordable and with a terrace overlooking the water).

If you’re number one requirement is a HUGE roof terrace overlooking the water, don’t miss Castello Beach Rooftop and Aquamarine Exclusive and Turchese Exclusive. They’re some of the pricier options, but would be fantastic places to stay.

There aren’t a huge number of larger properties in Ischia Ponte, but if you need more space, check out this four-bedroom property in a quiet residential street.

Sant’Angelo | Romantic, Exclusive & Blissfully Pedestrianised

Tucked away on Ischia’s southern coast, Sant’Angelo is the island at its most postcard-perfect.

Pastel houses tumble down the hillside toward a clear blue bay, narrow car-free streets thread between them, and the whole place feels like it’s moving at half speed.

The village is completely pedestrianised, which certainly adds to its appeal but also means you need to walk the final stretch in. If you’re arriving by bus or taxi, be prepared for a fairly steep downhill path from the drop-off point at the top of the hill. In summer heat - or with bags in tow - it’s not the most comfortable arrival!

We did spy some golf carts shuttling luggage though, so some accommodations may offer a solution.

That said, once you’ve made it down, the view opens up beautifully: a small harbour flanked by outdoor cafés and a pedestrian promenade, with a thin strip of land stretching out to a rocky islet known as La Torre. It’s along this isthmus that you’ll find Sant’Angelo’s main beach and collection of lidos (but if you’re basing yourself here, you can just as easily jump in one of the frequent boat taxis to Maronti Beach just across the water).

Expect boutique hotels, designer shops, and chilled aperitivi by the water. It’s a favourite among couples and the more well-heeled, and if you don’t mind that walk up and down the hill, Sant’Angelo would be a glorious place to base yourself.

Be aware that Airbnb options are rather limited here though, and those that are on offer tend to be at a higher price point than elsewhere in Ischia.

Best For / Honeymoons, peaceful getaways, boutique stays

Pros / Car-free, beautiful and serene, one of the most picturesque places on the island - and easy to access Maronti

Cons / Expensive, not great for those with mobility issues (lots of stairs), somewhat limited dining options

Hotels & Guesthouses

Casa Sofia Boutique Hotel | With whitewashed walls, soft interiors, and a lovely rooftop terrace, this small-scale hotel sits just above Sant’Angelo. Rooms are simple (and perhaps a little bland), but offer a modern and functional design. The highlight is the large balconies that open out to uninterrupted sea views, perfect for slow mornings or sunset downtime.

Miramare Sea Resort & Spa | Spread across a rocky promontory in Sant’Angelo, this five-star resort is all about sea views, privacy, and direct beach access. Interiors are classic Mediterranean with ceramic floors, soft colours, and thoughtful design touches that feel elegant rather than showy. The terraces are large, the thermal pools varied, and the overall atmosphere calm, discreet, and quietly luxurious.

Roccobarocco Boutique Hotel | A small, adults-only boutique hotel perched above the beach. Interiors are smart and contemporary, with black wood accents, clean-lined furnishings, and a soft, neutral palette. There’s a peaceful rooftop terrace, and the location right above the heart of Sant’Angelo makes it a rare and refined find.

Hotel Casa Celestino | A charming, cliffside property overlooking the sea and central piazza. Rooms are bright and modern in style, with ceramic floors and colourful detailing that pops against crisp white walls. Patterned tiles are used throughout and give the space a fresh, distinctive feel. Most rooms come with small balconies and sea views. It’s quiet and grown-up, with a great restaurant and an intimate, romantic atmosphere.

Hotel Ferdinando Beach & Thermal Spa | Tucked at the western end of Maronti Beach and reachable by footpath or water taxi, this family-run hotel has a laid-back, beachside atmosphere. Rooms are modest but well kept, and the natural thermal pool set in the garden is the highlight. A relaxed, affordable option for thermal spa access by the sea.

Hotel Residence S.Angelo | A peaceful, hillside stay overlooking Sant’Angelo, this small-scale aparthotel is all about space and quiet - clean, bright rooms with kitchenettes, a thermal pool with views, and a short downhill walk into the village. Interiors are simple, but everything is well maintained, and the vibe leans very much toward longer, slower stays. If you’re looking for boutique flair or luxury, it’s not that - but for a peaceful base in a beautiful location, it’s a great option.

If you’re wanting a budget option in this area, consider Hotel Villa Miralisa, Hotel Regina del Mare, Hotel Casa Nicola or Hotel Angelino.

Airbnbs & Apartments

La Casa Blu | Located on the rocky islet of La Torre and looking back on Sant’Angelo - views which can be enjoyed from the small stone balcony - this old fisherman’s cottage offers two bedrooms. Whilst on the petite size, it screams summer holiday.

La Perla Nera | Possibly the most luxurious property in the village, this large studio has been decorated and furnished to a high standard with a modern, considered finish throughout. There’s lots of space inside, a large living area (with full kitchen) and a balcony looking out over the water.

Super Panoramic Apt | There’s nothing particularly aesthetic about this apartment, but it is insanely good value - not just for Sant’Angelo, but for Ischia in general. Especially when you throw in the rooftop terrace with views out over the sea! Note that this place books up fast, so if it’s available for your dates, don’t wait!

Divina Seaside Suite | A two-bedroom apartment that would suit a family or couple - the master bedroom is gorgeous with French windows that open on to a balcony, but the second bedroom is much smaller and on the darker side. Gorgeous views throughout the tastefully furnished and decorated property, and you also get access to a rooftop terrace with loungers.

Le Pleiadi | This is our three-bed pick in this area. The bedroom set-up is ideal for a family, and whilst the internal communal space sin’t huge, it is more than made up for by the large terrace overlooking the beach. There are actually a few different sized apartments within the same building, managed by the same host - find all listings here.

Alternatiavely, if you want a three-bedroom property that has a little ‘va va voom’, don’t miss this apartment from which you can access the sea in less than ten steps.

Other places to take a look at include: Casa Santangiolese, this two-bed, Suite del Capitano and Casatullio.

Plan // The Best Beaches in Ischia

Lacco Ameno | Understated Luxury & Thermal Indulgence

Sitting on the northern coast, Lacco Ameno is one of the island’s smallest bases, with much of daily life centred along the waterfront - the beach, the promenade, the marina, and a concentrated stretch of hotels and thermal parks close to the sea.

It’s flat, easy to navigate on foot, and geared towards staying local, rather than moving around the island, with most days unfolding between a swim, lunch somewhere shaded, and time spent at one of the spa complexes.

Accommodation here leans firmly towards established hotels, a great number of which lie firmly in the luxurious category. Built around thermal water and the long-standing spa traditions that made Ischia famous, Lacco Ameno is best suited to travellers who are happy to settle into one place rather than come and go. It’s less appealing if you’re travelling on a tighter budget or want the flexibility of apartments and guesthouses, but well matched to those prioritising comfort, calm, and ease over variety.

Best for / Spa lovers, quieter getaways, older travellers

Pros / Home to some of the island’s best spa hotels, relaxed pace, fewer crowds than Porto or Forio

Cons / Limited nightlife and beach space, pricey restaurants, not much to explore beyond your hotel, and definitely not one for those on a budget

Hotels & Guesthouses

Botania Relais & Spa | Located near the Negombo thermal baths and set within three hectares of grounds threaded with floral footpaths, aromatic plants and palms, this luxurious hotel feels quietly refined. Villas sit among the greenery, offering elegant, classic-leaning rooms and a relaxed rhythm that never feels forced. There’s a 28°C pool and sun terrace to drift between, a small wellness area with indoor pool and sauna, and a dining scene that’s genuinely memorable - from the garden-led vegetarian restaurant to homestyle dishes and traditional Ischian cooking.

Reginna Isabella Resort | Located in the heart of Lacco Ameno, this is one of Ischia’s most iconic properties. The five-star resort is known for its old-Hollywood glamour, elegant dining, and full-service spa. Interiors blend vintage luxury with classic Italian detailing, the restaurant is exquisite and it offers private dining across private beaches, coves and sun terraces. Ideal for a longer, indulgent stay in a more refined setting.

The other luxurious resort in this area is San Montano, which has a real focus on the thermal spa element of their guests stay.

Hotel Villa Angelica | Perfect for those who prefer more intimate hotels over big resorts, this small, family-run place has an easy, un-showy charm. Wrapped in greenery on a quieter street, rooms are classic without feeling dated - some with balconies out to the sea - and there’s a modest thermal pool for a warm soak at the end of the day.

La Reginella Resort & Spa | Tucked behind its own gardens and shaded walkways, the look of La Reginella is classic Ischia - simple, bright rooms spread across several buildings, some with balconies overlooking the grounds. There are multiple thermal pools at different temperatures, an indoor spa area, and plenty of quiet corners to drift between after a day out. Convenient for exploring the island, it’s a dependable base for anyone wanting good spa access without the price tag of the island’s more luxurious hotels.

Hotel Villa Svizzera Terme is a popular alternative.

Airbnbs & Apartments

Romantic Penthouse | Located on Lacco Ameno’s main street, this one-bedroom penthouse apartment feels more contemporary than many stays in the area. The interiors are clean and minimal, with tiled floors, crisp white walls, and a more modern finish throughout. The real highlight is the large and well-kitted out terrace overlooking the bay - ideal for quiet breakfasts or sunset drinks.

The same host also has this equally-gorgeous one-bedroom apartment.

Smeraldino | This cute little property on a quiet street is ideal for a solo travellers or a couple. Small but perfectly formed, it has a lovely terrace area and everything needed for shorter stays - plus it’s really affordable, even in summer.

Petite Casa Caterina | A traditional Italian apartment, this highly-rated one-bed offers a bit more inside space than the above options, as well as a small terrace to dine on.

Barano d’Ischia | Wild Beaches & Local Life

Barano is one of the more rural parts of the island, stretching inland and down to Maronti Beach - the longest beach on Ischia, and probably our favourite.

The vast majority of the accommodation options here are offer a more resort style set-up - several with their own beach clubs - making this a fantastic place to stay if you want to completely switch off for a week, spend much of your day lounging on a sunbed, and don’t mind more limited dining options in the evenings.

From here you can easily reach Sant’Angelo by boat (these leave regularly throughout the day but these don’t operate after 6 or 7pm depending on the time of year); if you stay at the far east of the beach, there’s also a bus stop connecting you to the rest of the island. It is however important to note that many of the hotels are located on roads only really accessible to scooters and golf carts, so this may not be the best area to stay if you plan on doing a lot of day trips.

Additionally, like many other areas in Ischia, whilst there are quite a large number of hotels here, many of them are quite old-fashioned in the style and decor. Indeed, some give off a distinctly ‘tired resort’ vibe.

Best for / Nature lovers, independent travellers, beach bums

Pros / Access to Maronti Beach and natural hot springs, local and less touristy feel, good hiking in the hills

Cons / Inland areas can feel isolated without a car, limited nightlife and dining options

Hotels & Guesthouses

Apollon Club & Thermal Spa | Whilst there are a few elements that preclude this hotel from being described as truly luxurious, it is by far the nicest place to stay in the Maronti area - a feature that does come with a much higher price tag than other nearby options. Technically located on the cusp of Sant’Angelo, this means that visitors get the best of both worlds: a relaxing environment right on the beach, but within easy access of great restaurants and a bit more nightlife. The pool area is lovely, it’s got a private beach club, and many rooms come with large private terraces overlooking the water.

Hotel Ferdinando Beach & Thermal Spa | Set just above Le Fumarole dei Maronti (a section of beach where volcanic gases escape through natural vents), this hotel has really lovely dining, bathing, spa and lounging areas, plus a restaurant that guests speak highly of. The rooms are a tad on the basic side, but this is a solid mid-range choice.

Hotel Vittorio Beach Resort | Where to stay if you really want to escape the crowds. The rooms have definitely seen better days, but its location literally on the beach, the restaurant overlooking the water, and the lovely pool area means this continues to be a popular choice.

La Gondola is another popular hotel in this quiet section of Maronti Beach (also with a beach club).

Hotel San Giorgio Terme | Found near Maronti village (and handily right by a bus stop) this 4* hotel is highly-rated and super popular and offers guests an almost-on-the-beach-location - with a private beach club a five minute walk away - outdoor thermal pool, two sun terraces and lovely spa facilities. The only downside? The rooms are a little on the small side and there’s not much to do around this area in the evenings.

If you’re looking for something cheap and cheerful, take a look at Hotel Villa Franz, Hotel Angelino and Hotel Maronti.

Airbnbs & Apartments

There are a handful of private properties to rent in this part of Ischia, but very few that we’d really push people toward staying in. The highly-rated Villa Incanto is probably the best option here - located just above the ‘fumarole beach’ (and just a 10-minute walk to Sant’Angelo) this two bedroom property provides wonderful views, offers everything a couple or small family require and has a lovely host!

Casamicciola Terme | Low-Key & Spa-Focused

Casamicciola is one of the oldest spa towns on the island, known for its thermal waters and peaceful atmosphere. It’s less touristy than Ischia Porto and has a slightly faded charm, with leafy hillsides and small thermal parks. It’s a good base if you want something slower paced, with easy access to wellness facilities.

Be aware that the vast majority of accommodation options are resort-style hotels (which definitely won’t suit all travellers), and many are really quite dated and lacking any contemporary charm.

Best for / Spa-goers, relaxed holidays, longer stays

Pros / Quieter than the main towns, known for thermal spas, more affordable prices, hillside views

Cons / Some areas feel tired, fewer restaurants, not much nightlife

Hotels & Guesthouses

Nelinda Waterfront Accommodation | A small guesthouse in a genuinely great seafront position, with terraces that open straight onto the bay. Rooms are simple, but spotless and filled with natural light (opt for a suite if you can afford it). It’s quiet and informal, and run with real warmth - the kind of place people return to year after year (which explains why availability can be quite limited here, even several months in advance).

Paradise Relais Villa Janto' | This is probably one of our top picks in Cassamicciola, namely due to its more intimate size and more Mediterranean vibe. They’ve got a lovely pool and terrace area - with incredible views - and guests speak highly of the restaurant.

Manzi Hotel & Spa | The town’s foremost luxury hotel, this large resort definitely goes above and beyond compared to other nearby options. The rooms are elegant and airy, a feeling that carries throughout the property, There’s also a truly beautiful spa, decent fitness suite, and manicured grounds, plus the breakfast buffet is legendary.

Hotel La Madonnina | Located near the harbour, this is one of Casamicciola’s fancier hotels, with terraced gardens, a private beach (the raised platform sunbed area would be a glorious place to while away a few afternoons), and wide sea views. Rooms are fairly modern, light and bright thanks to the interior designer’s love affair with everything white with pops of colour throughout. Most have gorgeous views out over the water, and some even have a private hot tub! It suits couples or anyone who wants comfort close to the water.

O' Vagnitiello | Whilst we strongly feel that the rooms are just so-so in this hotel, the multi-layered pool/sunbed area more than makes up for it - especially if you can nab one of the beds by the water!

Hotel Bagnitiello | A budget-friendly stay with an unbeatable coastal setting and direct access to hot springs. Rooms are very simple and definitely dated, but everything is clean, and the upper terrace has panoramic views across the bay. If your priorities are location and thermal access (without breaking the bank), this one punches above its weight.

Other affordable options in Casamicciola include Hotel Residence - Parco Mare Monte, Hotel Casa Di Meglio and Hotel Villa D'Orta

Airbnbs & Apartments

Seaview Apartment | Although this relatively new studio is undeniably on the small size, it has two big things going for it: it’s pretty cheap compared to other options on the island and it has a private roof terrace with jacuzzi. So, whilst you may not want to spend much time inside, the outside on offer is pretty damn good.

The Mana | This brand new suite would make the perfect pied à terre for a couple. It offers amazing sea views from multiple windows, a small kitchenette and an excellent location right on the promenade.

Casa Donè | A number of the apartments in Cassamicciola look like they’ve moved nonna straight out and the tourist straight in - but this one-bedroom option has done it well, whilst retaining the traditional feel. The sea-facing roof terrace facing doesn’t hurt either!

If you need more space - and prefer staying in properties that feel like home rather than a vacation rental - this traditional three-bedroom house may be perfect.
